Library of congress, reading rooms

Washington, D.C.

There are twenty reading rooms in the Library of Congress. In the main building, the Thomas Jefferson building, just three were available on the day I visited. And two of those were hosting exhibitions, so I wasn't able to capture the full glory of all the rooms, "just" the (glorious) details. My favorite room is the Main Reading Room, *the red/gold one). It incorporates several of my favorite colors and the sheer grandeur of those enormous columns and the dome(!) move me. That room holds approximately 7,000 volumes (out of the Library's 30 million or so).

In the other rooms, look at those ceilings! The attention to detail from that bygone era is astounding.
